Three schools compete in a magical tournament
The Triwizard Tournament was an event hosted every five years from 1294 to 1792, between three of the most prestigious European schools of magic: Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, Durmstrang Institute and Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
A champion was elected to represent each school and the three champions participated in three magical tasks, all of which were extremely dangerous and difficult. The schools took it in turns to host the Tournament, which was agreed to be one of the best ways to unite young witches and wizards of different nationalities and allow them to form ties and bonds. It was discontinued nearly six hundred years after it started because the death toll had grown too high.
There had been several attempts since its discontinuation to bring back the Tournament, none of which were successful. In June 1994, however, the British Department of International Magical Co-operation decided the time was ripe for yet another attempt, and spent the summer ensuring that no champion found himself or herself in mortal peril.
The Triwizard Tournament was founded in 1292 as a friendly competition between the three greatest schools of sorcery in Europe: Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, Durmstrang Institute and Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It was agreed to be one of the best ways for young witches and wizards to unite and form bonds and ties.
During the Tournament of 1792, one of the tasks involved the capture of a cockatrice, which escaped and rampaged wild, injuring the Heads of all three schools. Thus, the Heads of the participating schools were set to always thereafter sit on the judges' panel, something which did not happen due to the Tournament being discontinued in that year.
As of 2014, Beauxbatons had 62 wins and Hogwarts 63. It is unknown how many wins Durmstrang had.
